LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

The combination of a heteronormative society and the real-life consequences of being LGBTQ has kept many from disclosing their identity and make it difficult to live fully.

Maybe you only realized that you have these feelings.  Or maybe you’ve always known, but you couldn’t act on it.

You might even be in a mixed-orientation relationship, and your partner has no idea. Maybe you’ve never told anyone about this part of you.  You might have mixed feelings about it, and maybe you even feel like the things you want are out of reach.

Or maybe you just need help with anxiety, depression, anger, or other mental health issues. You might just need a therapist who gets you, so you don’t have to spend half of your session educating your therapist.

Don’t wait to start your life.  Let’s explore who you really are and what you want.  It feels scary, but you don’t have to see the whole path to take the first step.

Neurodiversity

Your differences are not deficits.  You’re brain simply works differently.  Humanity is diverse, with people falling along a spectrum.  The same is true of our brains.  There is a spectrum of neuro-types and a even spectrum within each neurotype.

Being labeled as high functioning can have the effect of ignoring your challenges while being labeled as low functioning, often ignores your assets.

We all have assets and your differences should be accommodated – not viewed as defective or something that should be changed.  We help autistic adults and ADHDers embrace themselves and live more authentically while figuring out solutions to your challenges.

Self-Discovery & Self-Improvement

Therapy isn’t just for people with “mental health” issues – it is a form of self-care that everyone can benefit from!

Need some ideas?

  • Learn to set boundaries, become more assertive, or accept your body.
  • Take a deep dive into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Learn about the stages of change and how to make lasting changes.
  • Examine the things that aren’t working for you and what can be done about them.
  • Pick a self-help book, and let’s go over it together.

Asexuality

You’re not defective or broken.  You probably don’t need hormones or to “meet the right person.”  Sex is just not a thing for some people.

The strict definition of asexuality is not experiencing sexual attraction, but how do you know if you belong to a club of people who don’t see blue if you can’t see blue?

This is especially confusing when you also consider that there are multiple types of attraction (aesthetic, romantic, etc.) and that asexuality falls along a spectrum with many nuances.

More info: 6 Categories of People Impacted by Asexuality.

Even LGBTQ-informed therapists often lack specific knowledge about asexuality.  If you’re Ace and are struggling with asexuality or the impact of asexuality on your life and relationships, it can be important to find a therapist who specializes in this area.
