Affair Recovery

Affairs can deeply rupture the fabric of a relationship and often, couples are left with a choice: to part ways to rebuild with new understanding.

Post-affair counseling provides a compassionate space to navigate this painful process. We will delve into underlying emotions, desires, vulnerabilities, and meanings.

Affairs are sometimes a quest for longing and aliveness, and self-discovery. Sometimes it’s not about the primary partner or even the affair partner, but rather the person you become in the arms of another. It’s about self-discovery and exploration – finding lost parts of yourself, exploring paths not taken, and reinventing yourself.

Affairs can be the final nail in the coffin of an already dying relationship. Some couples barely survive the betrayal while others are able to turn the affair crisis into an opportunity.

Revitalizing Relationships

It’s common for relationships to hit rough patches. Over time, misunderstandings can stack up, old arguments can linger, and distance can grow. These challenges can make both you and your partner feel isolated, frustrated, or even unsure about the future of your relationship.

Using the principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we’ll delve deeper into the emotional cycles and patterns that might be causing distress in your relationship. EFT helps to identify and understand the underlying emotions that drive conflicts, fostering a safe space where both partners can express and respond to each other’s deepest needs. By centering on the emotional connection and building a secure bond, couples often discover new ways to communicate, resolve conflicts, and reconnect. The goal is not just to address immediate challenges, but to build a lasting foundation of trust, intimacy, and mutual understanding.

Relationships on the Rocks

Relationships are hard and sometimes time and emotional distance brings you to the point where you’re unsure if you even want to stay together.

But how do you figure out if it’s time to move on or if reinvesting in your relationship can heal old wounds and rekindle the love you once had?

Couple’s therapy can help explore these issues and the broader existential questions of who you are, who you want to be, who you might have been if you had taken a different path, and who you could be in the future.

Ending on a Good Note

Relationships aren’t necessarily meant to last forever.  If you’ve decided to go your separate ways, it can be helpful to nagivage this process with the help of a therapist who can help you process the breakup and say goodbuy in a way that promotes healing and closure, leaving you more psychologically prepared for you whatever lies ahead.

LGBTQIA+ Relationship Therapy

Being in an LGBTQIA+ relationship brings its unique set of joys, challenges, and experiences. While love is universal, societal perceptions, family dynamics, and even self-acceptance can create additional layers of complexity for LGBTQIA+ couples.

With Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we’ll work together to strengthen your bond and navigate any challenges you face as a couple. EFT is all about understanding the emotional core of your relationship, helping you both communicate more effectively and feel more connected. Whether you’re working through external pressures, internal conflicts or simply want to enhance your bond, our goal is to support you in building a relationship that’s resilient, fulfilling, and true to who you both are.

We also utilize the Gottman Method, a research-based approach, to help you and your partner deepen your understanding and respect for each other. We focus on enhancing your communication, managing conflicts constructively, and building a strong emotional connection. By addressing negative patterns like criticism and defensiveness, we aim to strengthen your intimacy and the resilience of your relationship.

Ethical Non-Monogamy Partner Therapy

While Ethical Non-Monogamy can offer enriching experiences and connections, it can also come with its set of complexities and challenges.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other evidenced-based practices, we aim to support you in deepening the understanding and security of your partners while navigating the dynamics of everyone involved.

EFT helps identify the emotions and patterns at play, ensuring all partners feel heard and validated. Whether addressing jealousy, setting boundaries, or enhancing communication, our goal is to help you cultivate healthy, transparent, and fulfilling relationships that respect all parties involved.

Living Apart Together (LAT) Relationships

Alternative relationship structures are becoming more popular.  Living Apart Together (LAT) can be a wonderful way to experience the intimacy of a relationship without giving up your independence or autonomy. LAT relationships are more common among younger career-focused couples and those who are older and may not want to cohabitate. LAT relationships, particularly those that are long-term, suffer from some of the same challenges as marriages and those who cohabitate.  Effective communication, conflict resolution skills, and intimacy/friendship building can help those in Living Apart Together Relationships.
