We Can Help

Late Diagnosed Autism

More and more women and those assigned female at birth (ASFB) are being diagnosed with autism.  This is partly because the diagnostic criteria changed in 2014 with the release of the DSM-5.  We’ve also discovered that the original diagnostic criteria were based on studying white males, and there is a whole group of autistic people who fall outside the stereotypical presentation. A lot of autistic people have sensory sensitivities that have significant impacts on their lives.  These sensory issues can affect all the senses, causing sound sensitivity, requiring specific clothes, needing a firm touch rather than a light touch, etc.  Autistic people are also more likely to identify as LGBTQ+. Many of these people developed masks to hide their autistic traits in a socially acceptable way.  However, making comes at a cost and can be a difficult way to live. Maybe you don’t need all your masks.  Perhaps your autistic traits can be accommodated , and the people around you can learn to support your needs. We do not provide autism diagnosis, but this is a safe space to explore your neurodivergence and any accommodations that might make your life more comfortable and give you the freedom to be authentically you!
